About Bri the Tech Guy
First,
this is me as I appear IRL (In Real Life), but silver-haired these
days:
My background:
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, 1984
- 12 years of experience in the IT industry - programmer, analyst, database administrator, system administrator, & more
- 1997 - Burn Out!! and time for a change. Back to graduate school for a Master of Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology (SLP), James Madison University, 2000
- 2 years as Assistive Technology (AT) Specialist in New York State at a school for special needs children
- 6 years as Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapist in a brain injury services program. AT was a major tool in the program
- 2008 - Burn
Out!! and time for a change. Opened wysiwyg
craft + art with two local artists and started Bri
the
Tech Guy at the same time. I loved the creative energy
that came from working with the fine craftspeople and artists
from the Shenandoah Valley until wysiwyg
closed in March 2013.
- 2010-2011 - Got "back in the saddle" with both AT and SLP at the Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind, principally working with students with visual impairments and/or multiple disabilities
- I am a tutor in the Virginia Department for the Blind and
Visually Impaired Technology Tutor Network. I work with clients
who have low vision or are blind who wish to use computers with
assistive technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers,
voice activation, etc.
- I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in Virginia. I can be of assistance to those who are having difficulty with any sort of assistive technology (e.g., speech-generating devices, memory aids, GPS systems, assistive software programs, etc.) I can also give one-on-one training on how to use these technologies.
